I really did not like seeing my name so far down on the list last month. October is going to be a better month! Hopefully my husband's crazy work schedule will calm down. Hopefully, I'll still diet and exercise well while we are on vacation. Hopefully, I manage to keep my treats sequestered to my one free day. Hopefully, I will find some of the motivation I seem to have lost.
Ready. Set. Go!

dread
Totally not looking forward to tomorrow's weigh-in. I'll be lucky if I'm down one or two pounds. Sigh.

diet plan
I've found what seems to work out okay for me.
breakfast (portion of carb, portion of protein)
lunch (portion of carb, portion of protein)
mid afternoon protein shake
dinner (portion of carb, portion of protein)
bedtime snack (usually cottage cheese and yogurt)
I've been trying to minimize on my snacking. Afternoons are killer though! I just keep trying to make better choices. I am also so very glad I get one free day a week. Now the trick is to keep it to only one free day.

struggling
I was so fired up at the beginning of the month. I was so excited to star the Biggest Loser Challenge and was starting to feel like I had some momentum going for me. Then, my pass at the rec center expired. The next sale did not start until Sept. 9 so I had a week of no place to do weights. Of course, I shouldn't have let that stop me from working out. On top of the no rec center thing, my husband is in the middle of his busy season at work. He's been going to work early, not coming home for lunch, and then still going back to work after the kids are in bed. I'm finding that if I don't get up and work out before he goes to work, it just doesn't happen that day.
Anyhow, I know it is all just excuses and there are solutions to each problem. Still my efforts have been a bit stymied. I started the month at 169. I was so thrilled to have finally broken that 170 barrier. My weight went up a few pounds in the next week but with better choices I am back to where I started the month. Back at the base line but with no forward progress. Ugh.

blog title explained
You now the song "Fifty Nifty United States"? Perhaps I am the only one who grew up singing that...
Anyhow, here I am fifty pounds past skinny. Fifty. Not such a nifty number when its referring to the number of pounds I need to lose. Actually, I was reading Body for Life for Women and in that the author's formula for proper weight is to give yourself five pounds for every inch over 5 feet that you are tall. I am about 5' 3" so according to the author, I should weigh 115 pounds. I have not weighed that since high school. So I am shooting for 130 which is what I weighed before I started having children. I have five kids now and have added on ten extra pounds for each one.
So the blog title...make sense now? It was late. I am not all that clever. Its just what came to mind.

down 8

I started Body for Life in mid-July, I think. My beginning weight was 178. I have not been perfect but I have been exercising 4-5 times a week and eating a lot better. It has been great to see the numbers on the scale going in the right direction, albeit slowly.
The last time I heard about some photography friends doing a biggest loser challenge, I was pregnant and unable to join in. I was very excited when I heard they were doing it again. I wanted to join in the challenge for some extra motovation. Today was the first weigh in. I was thrilled when I weighed in today and finally broke the 170 barrier. Still so far to go but I am happy for this success.
